NOT everyone was happy with The Fall’s long awaited comeback on Sunday night.

The hit BBC Two crime drama aired in Ireland, four days before it’s broadcast on BBC Two, but some fans were left reeling – comparing the show to ER and Casualty.

The first episode begins exactly where series two ended with evil serial killer Paul Spector (played by Jamie Dornan) left dying on the ground after being shot.

As Detective Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) calls an ambulance for Spector and DS Tom Anderson (Colin Morgan), who’s also been shot, it appear much of the rest of the episode plays out in hospital.

And that didn’t go down so well.

It’s been two years since fans last had a new episode of The Fall and despite some criticism, some viewers raved about the show – including the brilliance of Jamie and Gillian’s acting ability.

This series will be the last 34-year-old Jamie stars in.

He said: “There’s a little bit of devastation for me, I have to say.

“It’s a job that means a lot to me, and a character that I really love playing, and a group of people that have become family over four and a half years, so it’s very bittersweet.

“It’s like a support blanket that someone’s taking away from you – quite abruptly.”

Speaking about what he wanted from the series, The Fall’s creator Allan Cubitt said: Hopefully it represents an organic development, just as series two was a development from series one.

“It’s a real privilege to be able to explore one story across three seasons.

“I always wanted The Fall to have a forensic quality and hopefully the story goes deeper and deeper in its exploration of the central characters – and some of the subsidiary characters too – and its main themes and preoccupations.”

The Fall returns to BBC Two on Thursday, 29 September at 9pm.
